Phoenix Real Estate
Phoenix, nicknamed "Valley of the Sun", is the state capital of Arizonaand is located in central Arizona in the southwestern United States, 118 miles northwest of Tucson. It is Arizona's largest city and largest metropolitan area by population, boasting some 1.5 million residents and becoming the seventh most populous city in the nation. It is also the county seat of Maricopa County and the principal city of the Phoenix metropolitan area.
From a mere 17 square miles, Phoenix has grown to encompass some 430 square miles and the population has grown fifteen-fold since 1950. Up until the second world war, Phoenix was known mostly for it's climate and the 4-C's, copper, cattle, citrus and cotton, the mainstay of the Phoenix economy at that time. Since then, Phoenix has grown to harbor such prestigous banners as Goodyear Aircraft Corp., AiResearch, Motorola, Sperry Rand and General Electric, some of which are counted among the cities largest employers today.
However,Phoenix has more to offer than just industry, having abundant sunshine and recreational advantages to spare. It aslo offers historic homes of the Encanto District which are favored by the upperclass and the more cozy, antique adobe homes for those having the flair of a fixer-upper. Then there is the country-club lifestyle that encircles the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, and the sprawling estates lining the lightly wooded streets of north Central Avenue.
Lets not forget the outdoor enthusiast and the fact that Phoenicians have a great appreciation for sunny weather and the active outdoor lifestyle. Comprising 16,500 acres, South Mountain Park can boast of being the largest municipal park in the world, serving as the city's border, and a mecca for hiking, biking, horseback riding and the like. In addition, another 17,000 acres of traditional city parks, some with golf courses, provide an oasis of green throughout the city.
